The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation has given Olectra Greentech, a division of Megha Engineering & Infrastructures (MEIL), what it claims is the largest single order in South India for 550 electric buses (TSRTC).

500 intracity e-buses and 50 intercity coach e-buses are part of the order. The intercity coach e-buses will run between Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh and Hyderabad in Telangana. The e-buses have complete air conditioning and can cover more than 325 kilometers on a single charge. Each of the intracity e-buses, which will operate within Hyderabad, has a range of more than 225 kilometers on a single charge. For the deployment and operation of these e-buses, TSRTC has designated five depots in the twin cities.

With 40 e-buses, Olectra claims its partnership with TSRTC officially started in March 2019. These e-buses have been running between the airport and different parts of Hyderabad. This decree is a component of Telangana state’s plan for extensive clean, green public transportation using electric mobility.

K V Pradeep, Chairman, and MD, Olectra Greentech said, “We won the order to supply 50 standard floor 12-meter intercity coach e-buses and 500 low floor 12-meter intracity e-buses from the TSRTC. We are proud to partner with the TSRTC in their vision for sustainable and economical large-scale public transport. Olectra’s pure e-buses will significantly reduce the noise and emission levels in the city of Hyderabad.”

MD VC Sajjanar, IPS said, “TSRTC hopes to make electric buses available across Hyderabad by March 2025 and we are working on it. In the first phase we are going to deploy 550 Olectra e-buses under GCC.  All those buses will come into use in stages.”
