CLOU Electronics unveiled its next-generation energy storage solution, the Aqua-C3.0 Ultra, at the Solar & Storage Live Africa exhibition. The system, standing over 10 feet tall, combines DC/AC All-In-One liquid-cooled technology in a single integrated unit designed for utility-scale applications.
The Aqua-C3.0 Ultra features 587 Ah battery cells and comes in two configurations: a DC/AC All-In-One version and a standalone DC version. The third-generation pack design reduces component count by 30% compared to previous models, achieving industry-leading energy density of 535 kWh/m² for the DC version and 480 kWh/m² for the DC/AC model.
Compared with traditional 20-foot containerized systems of 5MWh to 7MWh+, the Aqua-C3.0 Ultra optimizes capacity, footprint, and weight. Its design accommodates global port lifting standards and overland transport, reducing per-Wh transportation costs by 11% to 46%.
The system employs a fully liquid-cooled solution covering the battery, electrical compartments, and PCS, maintaining efficient operation across temperatures from -30°C to 50°C, with an optional upgrade to 55°C. Safety is enhanced with a multi-layer protection system, including early thermal runaway warning, fire suppression, and explosion prevention, meeting UL 9540A and NFPA 69 standards.
Equipped with CLOU’s Version 7.0 BMS, the system provides high-precision data acquisition and 0.5A active balancing, enabling AI-driven cell health diagnostics and early fault warnings. The DC/AC version integrates grid-forming SiC PCS technology, reducing installation and commissioning time by 50%, and supports grid-forming functions such as frequency regulation, inertia response, and black start.
CLOU has already delivered projects in Rwanda, Cape Verde, and Zimbabwe. With Africa accelerating its energy transition, the launch of Aqua-C3.0 Ultra addresses the continent’s growing need for secure, flexible, and high-performance energy storage solutions, reinforcing CLOU’s commitment to the market.
