Radian Generation has announced the successful commercial launch and regulatory compliance support for the 100 MWac Bexar Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Bexar County, Texas. The utility-scale energy storage project, developed by Goshe Energy Storage, has officially entered commercial operation after completing key regulatory milestones.
The Bexar BESS achieved its Commercial Operations Date (COD) on March 12, 2026, following ERCOT III approval. The project also completed its mandatory North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) registration on March 20, allowing the facility to begin operations while meeting required reliability and cybersecurity standards.
Designed with a total capacity of 100 MWac, the battery energy storage system will strengthen grid reliability across the ERCOT network and support the growing integration of renewable energy resources in Texas. Since the facility exceeds the 75 MVA threshold, it was required to register as a NERC Category 1 Generation Owner (GO), ensuring compliance with strict operational and security regulations.
During the final commissioning phase, Radian Generation worked closely with Goshe Energy Storage to validate engineering controls, review technical documentation, establish operating procedures, and implement NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) cybersecurity requirements. These efforts ensured the project met all compliance obligations before commercial operation.
According to Tyler Bohan, Director of Engineering at Goshe Energy Storage, bringing a project of this scale online while simultaneously meeting NERC registration requirements required close coordination. He noted that Radian Generation collaborated effectively with the engineering team to help achieve regulatory compliance before the facility went live.
Following the successful completion of commercial operations and NERC registration, Radian Generation will continue supporting the Bexar BESS through ongoing compliance management and cybersecurity services. The project highlights the increasing importance of regulatory readiness and secure operations as large-scale battery energy storage projects continue to expand across the U.S. power sector.
