To make owning an electric vehicle more easy, luxury automaker Mercedes-Benz India has submitted a proposal for a shared platform that would offer real-time information about all charging stations that are accessible and run by various service providers. Santosh Iyer, MD and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, noted that the shared app will significantly improve customer convenience and support the nation’s push toward the adoption of electric vehicles.

Iyer stated that democratizing access to electric vehicle charging infrastructure is necessary in a conversation with PTI.

“You now need three or four separate apps on your phone if you purchase an electric vehicle. We are asking the government to develop a system that will resemble UPI,” Iyer stated.

Although India is a powerhouse in digital technology, he said there are still many apps available when it comes to charging.

“They (apps) don’t talk to each other payment gateways are not in sync if it can be solved the convenience of EVs will be next level,” Iyer stated.

He gave the example of how Mercedes owners in Germany and many other countries may pay for a range of services, including charging, using an app.

However, in India, we lack a single charge point operator who can combine it, thus we are unable to execute entirely. Thus, we continue to advocate that convenience be the primary motivator for owning an electric vehicle “added Iyer.
