Mercedes-Benz plans to introduce the highly awaited G 580 with EQ Technology to the Indian market on January 9, 2025. It functions solely on electricity and is essentially a G-Class SUV. It can go 473 kilometers between charges and is equipped with a quad-motor all-wheel-drive system.
The Mercedes Benz G 580 EV’s interior design is substantially the same as that of the standard ICE vehicle, notwithstanding some EV-specific changes designed to give it a new look. Owners can replace the four-slat closed-off grille on the front fascia of the 2017 Mercedes G-Class EV with an EQ-style blanked-off grille with LED surrounds. The bumper has been modified with cladding along the A-pillar to give it a more substantial appearance.
The Mercedes G-Class EV has a spoiler integrated into the roof and air curtains on the back wheel arches. Included is a spare wheel mounted on the boot. However, customers have the option to swap out the spare wheel for a square storage box. This box can be used to store tools and a charging cord.
The G-Class EV’s dashboard is dominated by two 12.3-inch digital panels. The standard 3-locking differential switches are replaced with display graphics tailored to EQ. Its current applications include low range activation and the “tank turn” capability.
The Mercedes G-Class EV’s range and specs: The Mercedes G 580’s quad-motor AWD electric drivetrain generates 1164 mm of peak torque and 579 horsepower. Included is a 116kWh underfloor battery pack. The electric SUV is said to have a range of 473 kilometers between charges. The G 580 EV has an electronically regulated top speed of 180 kmph and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.7 seconds.
The electric SUV supports DC rapid charging up to 200 kW. Furthermore, AC charging of up to 11 kW is supported. Its angles of approach and departure are 32 and 30.7 degrees, respectively. The G 580 EV can ride on sideways slopes up to 35 degrees, and the breakover angle is 20.3 degrees.
The Mercedes G-Class EV will most likely be imported as a CBU. Since July 2024, bookings for the electric G-Class, which will be offered in limited quantities, have been accepted in India.
