Bengaluru-based electric two-wheeler maker Ather Energy has officially filed a design patent in India for its upcoming electric scooter built on the brand-new EL platform, signalling a major step forward in its product roadmap and next-generation rollout. The move is widely seen as a strong indication that Ather is progressing towards commercialising its latest family-oriented EV model, which was previewed earlier this year.

The design protected under the patent bears a strong resemblance to the EL01 concept first revealed by Ather during its Community Day 2025 event, showcasing familiar body lines and proportions. While the overall silhouette and minimalist styling closely mirror the concept, the newly patented graphics also show production-ready elements such as rear-view mirrors and refined lighting details.

Key design elements highlighted in the patent include a clean front fascia with prominent LED daytime running lights, a full LED tail lamp, and a balanced stance that suggests practicality and broad appeal. Industry watchers believe this approach underscores Ather’s intent to move beyond niche sporty scooters and target mainstream family EV buyers.

Underpinning the new scooter is the modular EL platform, a flexible architecture engineered to support multiple scooter formats and battery configurations. According to reports, this platform can house battery packs ranging from approximately 2 kWh to 5 kWh, enabling variants that could address different riding needs—from everyday commuting to extended range usage.

Technical features expected to carry over from the EL01 concept include a swingarm-mounted motor, an alloy wheel setup with a larger front and slightly smaller rear, and a large TFT display, suggesting the new scooter will offer a blend of performance, connectivity, and convenience in line with modern EV expectations.

According to industry reports, Ather is targeting the festive season of 2026 for the launch of its first EL platform-based scooter, which will temporarily co-exist with its current lineup including the 450 series and the Rizta. The new scooter is widely expected to spearhead Ather’s next phase of growth and broaden its appeal in the fast-moving electric two-wheeler market.
