Bengaluru registered 13,389 new electric vehicles (EVs) in August 2026, accounting for 50.3% of Karnataka’s total EV registrations during the month. According to data from the transport department, Karnataka recorded 26,636 EV registrations in August. Bengaluru registered 76,508 new vehicles overall during the month, with EVs accounting for 17.5% of the total, or roughly one in every six new vehicles.
Electric two-wheelers accounted for the largest share of Bengaluru’s EV registrations in August. The city registered 9,453 electric two-wheelers and 1,258 electric cars during the month. On average, around 300 electric two-wheelers and 40 electric cars were added to Bengaluru’s roads every day, along with around 90 EVs from other vehicle categories. Electric two-wheelers accounted for about 71% of the city’s total EV registrations, while electric cars contributed around 9%.
Across Karnataka, the state recorded 26,636 EV registrations in August, with Bengaluru contributing 13,389 units. This gave Bengaluru a 50.3% share of the state’s EV registrations for the month. The city also had more than 4.9 lakh registered EVs as of August 30, compared with nearly 8.9 lakh EVs across Karnataka. Bengaluru therefore accounted for about 56% of the state’s total registered EV fleet.
As of August 2026, Bengaluru had around 3.8 lakh electric two-wheelers and 46,596 electric cars. Its electric commercial vehicle fleet included 9,922 motor cabs, 6,855 passenger three-wheelers and 9,876 goods three-wheelers. The city also had 2,009 electric buses registered with its regional transport offices.
Despite the increase in EV registrations, electric vehicles accounted for about 3.8% of Bengaluru’s overall registered vehicle fleet as of August 30. The city had around 1.3 crore registered vehicles, including more than 88.5 lakh two-wheelers and nearly 25.5 lakh cars. At the state level, Karnataka’s EV fleet stood at nearly 8.9 lakh, comprising 7.3 lakh electric two-wheelers, 65,915 electric cars and EVs across other commercial and vehicle categories.
Karnataka’s annual EV registration figures have also increased over recent years. The state recorded 7,155 EV registrations in 2019-20, rising to 46,140 in 2021-22 and crossing the one-lakh mark in 2022-23. Annual EV registrations reached 2.3 lakh in 2025-26, which was more than 32 times the 2019-20 level. The latest registration data shows the continued increase in EV registrations across Karnataka, with Bengaluru accounting for a substantial share of the state’s monthly registrations.
