Bondada Engineering has clinched a major contract from the Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Limited (AP TRANSCO) to develop a large-scale standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) in the state. The company received a Letter of Award (LoA) for the project, marking a significant milestone in its renewable energy infrastructure portfolio.

Under the contract, Bondada Engineering will set up a 225 MW / 450 MWh battery energy storage facility at the 400/220 kV substation in Hindupur, Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh. The project will be executed on a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) basis, allowing the company to own, operate and maintain the asset throughout its lifecycle.

Valued at approximately ₹627 crore, the project is expected to be completed within 18 months from the date of receipt of the LoA. Once operational, the system will strengthen grid stability and help manage peak power demand, while enabling better integration of renewable energy sources into the regional electricity network.

The BOO model positions Bondada to generate stable, long-term annuity-based revenues, improving cash flow visibility and strengthening financial predictability compared with traditional construction-only contracts. This represents a strategic shift for the company toward revenue models with recurring income.

With this new award, Bondada Engineering’s cumulative BESS portfolio has neared 1 GWh, reinforcing its role in India’s expanding energy storage market. The company’s growing presence in grid-scale storage reflects broader efforts to support the country’s clean energy transition.

Officials also noted that the project was awarded by AP TRANSCO without involving interests from Bondada’s promoters or group entities, ensuring clear regulatory compliance and transparency in the transaction.
