Brose, an automotive supplier, is expanding its product line with the introduction of an acoustic warning system made especially for electric cars. By 2026, the family-run company intends to equip millions of electric and hybrid cars with this innovative technology throughout North America and Europe.
When starting off and moving at low speeds, electric vehicles are known for their nearly silent operation. This presents a problem since other drivers might not notice an approaching vehicle until it is extremely close. As a result, installing these warning systems is mandated by international law in order to improve road safety.
In response to this requirement, Brose designed the Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS), which generates synthetic road noises at velocities under fifty kilometers per hour. Utilizing its extensive experience in electronics and acoustics from projects like building sound boxes for door modules, Brose has developed a system with a wide frequency range of 200 to 5,000 hertz. This range makes it possible to create bespoke sound profiles and produce sounds of excellent quality. By using state-of-the-art simulation tools, this system’s development was accelerated and completed in a matter of months.
