The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has significantly expanded its electric vehicle charging network, keeping pace with a rapid rise in EV adoption across the emirate. New data shows that Dubai’s registered EV count climbed sharply in 2025, underscoring the growing popularity of zero‑emission transport.

The DEWA Green Charger initiative recorded robust activity throughout the year, driven by a suite of policy measures and strategic industry partnerships. The initiative’s charging infrastructure now includes ultrafast, fast, public, and wall‑box chargers deployed in collaboration with both public sector bodies and private operators.

According to DEWA figures, the number of EVs registered in Dubai reached 47,944 by the end of 2025, up from 37,486 at the close of 2024 an increase of 27.9 per cent year‑on‑year. The number of users signed up to the Green Charger programme also surged to more than 23,600 by mid‑January 2026.

The charging network itself has been scaled up to more than 1,860 charging points across the city, including installations facilitated by licensed independent operators. This marks a significant jump in capacity aimed at reducing range anxiety and supporting wider EV adoption.

DEWA has also highlighted the role of Dubai’s Regulatory Framework for EV Charging Infrastructure introduced in October 2024 in standardising the sector and encouraging investment from contractors, property developers and energy sector partners. Under this framework, independent charge point operators are licensed to develop and operate charging facilities alongside DEWA’s direct deployments.

The authority’s efforts this year have included strategic agreements with major local stakeholders to roll out additional charging points at key taxi hubs, public parking areas and service stations. DEWA has emphasised the importance of 24/7 accessibility, with charging locations searchable through its app and multiple digital platforms.
