FlixBus, a prominent European intercity bus service provider, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with India’s ETO Motors to launch electric intercity coaches in the country. The partnership will commence next month with the deployment of four zero-emission luxury coaches.
The collaboration includes plans to establish charging infrastructure along FlixBus routes and develop a framework for future expansion in electric mobility solutions. ETO Motors will leverage its expertise in electric mobility, while FlixBus will contribute its global experience in intercity transportation.
Surya Khurana, Managing Director of FlixBus India, stated that the partnership aligns with India’s goals to reduce carbon emissions and promote green transportation. Rajeev YSR, CEO of Thunder Plus and Group Chief Marketing Officer at ETO Group, added that the alliance plans to build public charging infrastructure nationwide, facilitating first-mile, last-mile, and intercity operations.
Founded in Germany in 2013, FlixBus has expanded to become a significant intercity bus service provider in Europe and the U.S., known for its technologically advanced approach to transportation. In 2024, the company entered the Indian market as part of its global expansion strategy.
Since 2018, ETO Motors, an Indian electric mobility solutions company, has focused on environmentally friendly transportation options, introducing small commercial vehicles and electric three-wheelers in several Indian cities.
This collaboration comes as the Indian government sets ambitious targets to reduce carbon emissions and encourages the adoption of electric vehicles. By 2030, the nation aims for 70% of commercial vehicles and 30% of private automobiles to be electrified.
