General Motors subsidiary GM Energy is at the forefront of the energy storage market with the introduction of the GM Energy PowerBank. In order to power their homes during blackouts, EV owners can store energy and connect the PowerBank to solar power systems. There are two variants available: 10.6 kWh and 17.7 kWh. The new product line aims to provide consumers greater control over their energy consumption by offering modular solutions that address a variety of energy needs.

The purpose of the GM Energy PowerBank is to make solar energy storage easier, counteract peak electricity costs, and provide backup power during blackouts. By connecting two 17.7 kWh PowerBanks, users may create up to 35.4 kWh of storage, which is sufficient to power a typical American home for up to 20 hours.

Vice president of GM Energy Wade Sheffer said, “Our customers have more control over their energy use thanks to one of the largest lineups of vehicle-to-home capable electric vehicles on the market and the flexibility of our energy management tools.” This lessens the effects of power interruptions, integrates renewable energy options, and unlocks additional value.

The PowerBank is part of the GM Energy Home System bundle, which also includes a PowerShift charger and a Vehicle-to-Home Enablement kit. Customers can easily include the PowerBank into their current V2H configuration. Those that use solar electricity will be sent to Qmerit, GM Energy’s recommended partner for site assessments and installation.
