Godawari Power & Ispat Limited (GPIL), through its wholly owned subsidiary Godawari New Energy Private Limited, has received environmental clearance from the State Expert Appraisal Committee-3 (SEAC-3), Maharashtra, for the construction of an industrial building for a 20 GWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project. The proposed facility is located at the AURIC Bidkin Industrial Area in District Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra.
The environmental clearance was accorded through the 299th Minutes of Meeting of SEAC-3, Maharashtra, under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. Godawari New Energy Private Limited received the clearance on October 5, 2026. The approval covers the construction of the industrial building for setting up the 20 GWh BESS facility at AURIC Bidkin Industrial Area.
The 20 GWh BESS project is being developed by Godawari New Energy Private Limited, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Godawari Power & Ispat. The company has been pursuing the project as part of its expansion into the battery energy storage segment. Earlier company disclosures identified the first phase of its broader BESS plans as a 20 GWh project.
According to the company’s latest project update, GPIL had incurred ₹501 crore in capital expenditure towards the BESS project as of June 30, 2026. The company also subscribed to ₹150 crore worth of equity shares in Godawari New Energy through a rights issue on July 3, 2026, taking its total investment in the subsidiary to ₹600 crore.
The BESS project is being developed at the AURIC Bidkin Industrial Area in Maharashtra. Earlier disclosures from GPIL stated that land had been acquired for the project, while soil testing had been completed and compound wall construction was underway. The company had also disclosed arrangements related to battery storage equipment and other systems required for the project.
With the environmental clearance now received, Godawari Power can proceed with the next stages of development of its proposed 20 GWh Battery Energy Storage System in Maharashtra, subject to applicable project requirements. The approval represents a key regulatory milestone for GPIL’s planned energy storage project and supports the company’s efforts to expand its presence in the clean energy and battery storage sector.
