Gotion High-Tech has announced plans to invest €950 million in Spain to establish a battery cathode materials plant and a state-of-the-art battery recycling facility. The investment marks a significant step in the company’s European expansion strategy while supporting the region’s growing electric vehicle (EV) battery supply chain and circular economy goals.
The project will be developed in Valladolid, where Gotion aims to create an integrated battery materials ecosystem. The new facilities will focus on manufacturing high-performance cathode materials and recovering valuable metals from end-of-life lithium-ion batteries, reducing dependence on imported raw materials and improving resource efficiency.
The battery recycling plant will use advanced technologies to recover critical materials such as lithium, nickel, cobalt, and manganese, enabling these resources to be reused in new battery production. This closed-loop approach is expected to strengthen sustainable battery manufacturing while lowering environmental impact.
The investment is expected to boost Spain’s position as a key hub for Europe’s EV battery industry. In addition to supporting local manufacturing, the project is anticipated to generate new employment opportunities, attract suppliers, and enhance the country’s battery value chain through increased industrial activity.
Gotion High-Tech’s expansion aligns with Europe’s broader strategy of localizing battery production and reducing reliance on overseas supply chains. By combining cathode material manufacturing with battery recycling, the company aims to improve supply chain resilience while supporting the growing demand for electric vehicle batteries across the region.
With the planned €950 million investment, Gotion High-Tech is reinforcing its long-term commitment to sustainable battery production in Europe. The new facilities are expected to accelerate innovation in battery materials, promote circular economy practices, and contribute to the continued growth of the European electric mobility sector.
