As India’s automotive industry braces for an influx of electric vehicles from all of the nation’s major automakers, Japanese automaker Honda is preparing to chart its own electrification path in the country. In 2026–2027, the company intends to establish a foothold in the electric vehicle industry by introducing a single fully electric vehicle and potent hybrid drivetrains.

“Three models will be introduced between 2026 and 2027. The first battery-electric car is based on Elevate and two other vehicles. Those three types are likely to be hybrid or battery-electric vehicles. Takuya Tsumura, president and CEO of Honda Cars India, said, “As part of the global company’s policy, we will continue to introduce and increase the proportion of electrified vehicles.”

The management claims that Honda decided to start its electrification journey with a battery electric car rather than a potent hybrid because it thinks that electric vehicles are crucial given the expected 2027 implementation of CAFÉ 3 requirements. Because of this, we decide to start with electric vehicles that are based on Elevate. But “other future lines will also have hybrid technology,” Tsumura continued.

In contrast to plug-in hybrids, strong hybrids, and range extenders, the automaker feels that strong hybrids are more relevant in the present Indian automotive industry. Nevertheless, the administration did not disclose any details regarding the hybrid lineup’s strategy.
