Honda Motor has announced a major expansion of its electrification strategy with the introduction of three new high-output models in its eGX electric power unit series. The newly unveiled GXE4.0D, GXE6.0D, and GXE9.0D models are designed for commercial-grade industrial and construction equipment, offering higher power output and broader application possibilities. Honda plans to begin supplying these electric power units to OEM customers starting this fall, initially in Japan and later across Europe and North America.
The new additions significantly increase the capabilities of Honda’s eGX platform, which was first introduced for smaller equipment applications. While earlier eGX models were primarily used in compact construction machinery such as rammers and plate compactors, the latest models deliver power outputs of up to 8.7 kW, making them suitable for more demanding equipment including excavators, high-pressure washers, and other industrial machines.
Honda has developed the new electric power units using motor technologies derived from its electric motorcycle programs. The company says the motors feature optimized magnetic circuits, enhanced cooling performance, and robust construction capable of handling the harsh operating environments typically found in construction and industrial sectors. The design also maintains compatibility with Honda’s widely used GX engine series, allowing equipment manufacturers to integrate the new units more easily into existing product platforms.
A key feature of the new eGX models is their use of Honda’s Mobile Power Pack e:, a swappable battery system that enables continuous operation by allowing users to quickly replace depleted batteries with fully charged units. This approach helps minimize downtime while supporting productivity on job sites. The battery platform is also compatible with other Honda electric products, creating a standardized energy ecosystem across multiple applications.
Honda has already conducted field validation of the high-output eGX units in collaboration with construction equipment manufacturers in Japan. According to the company, testing in real-world operating environments confirmed the durability, reliability, and performance required for demanding industrial applications. The experience gained through these pilot deployments has helped refine the products before their commercial launch.
The company will showcase the new eGX series at the Construction & Survey Productivity Improvement Expo (CSPI 2026) in Japan. By expanding its lineup of electrified power solutions, Honda aims to support the ongoing transition toward lower-emission construction and industrial equipment while helping manufacturers meet evolving environmental and operational requirements.
