Hyundai Motor has revealed the all-new NEXO, a next-generation hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) that sets a fresh benchmark for zero-emission mobility. The Korean automaker presented the SUV to global media in its homeland, underscoring its long-term vision for hydrogen-powered transport.
At the heart of the new NEXO lies a heavily upgraded powertrain. Hyundai has redesigned its power electronics (PE) system, doubling the battery output from 40 kW to 80 kW. Meanwhile, the hydrogen fuel-cell stack now delivers a gross output of 110 kW — a 16% improvement over the previous model — resulting in a combined system output of 190 kW. This boost in power enables the NEXO to sprint from 0–100 km/h in just 7.8 seconds.
One of the most striking claims about the new NEXO is its projected driving range: up to 826 km (WLTP) on a single hydrogen refill, which takes just about five minutes. Hyundai attributes this deep range to a denser hydrogen storage system (6.69 kg), as well as enhanced cold-weather capabilities.
On the driving dynamics front, the SUV brings in several smart technologies. It features e-Handling for sharper grip and steering response, and a Smart Regenerative System (SRS) that adjusts energy recovery based on navigation and traffic data. The SUV also benefits from aerodynamic optimization and noise control — such as noise-cancelling cabin components and special tires, improving overall comfort. Notably, for European markets, Hyundai has included a towing capacity of up to 1,000 kg, making it the first fuel-cell EV in its class to offer this.
Inside, the NEXO boasts a tech-rich cabin. A dual 12.3-inch curved screen setup serves as the cockpit, coupled with AI-driven voice recognition, over-the-air updates, and wireless phone connectivity. It also has a Bang & Olufsen audio system with up to 14 speakers, high-speed wireless charging, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality to power external devices, digital side and centre mirrors (in some markets), a dashcam, and even fingerprint authentication.
Safety has not been left behind. The all-new NEXO is built on a high-strength structure, reinforced with hot-stamped materials and up to nine airbags. Hyundai’s SmartSense ADAS suite is also loaded in this model, including features like Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance, smart cruise control, and more.
Finally, the design of the new NEXO reflects Hyundai’s “Art of Steel” philosophy. The SUV showcases bold, sharp lines and new “HTWO Lamps” tailored for fuel-cell models. The cabin has grown more spacious, with a cargo volume reaching 993 litres and premium relaxation seats made from bio-materials such as recycled plastics, bio PU leather, linen, and bio paints — reinforcing Hyundai’s push for sustainability. With its global launch expected in early 2026, Hyundai positions the NEXO as a flagship of its hydrogen mobility roadmap.
