Indofast Energy and Nexus Select Malls have teamed up to introduce battery swapping stations inside shopping mall premises, marking a first-of-its-kind integration of sustainable mobility infrastructure into retail environments. The initiative began with the launch of Quick Interchange Stations at Nexus Shantiniketan and Nexus Whitefield in Bengaluru, the companies said.
The newly installed facilities are designed to serve electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers, providing an alternative to traditional charging by allowing depleted batteries to be exchanged for fully charged units in a matter of minutes. This automated system supports multiple vehicle types on a common platform, helping reduce long wait times and address range limitations for urban EV users.
According to Indofast Energy, the partnership with Nexus Select Malls aims to bring battery swapping closer to where people live, work and shop, making it more convenient for commuters, delivery partners and fleet operators to access clean energy solutions. The locations within high foot-traffic retail destinations are expected to enhance daily usability and visibility of EV infrastructure.
Indofast Energy’s chief executive, Anant Badjatya, said the collaboration represents a shift in how cities could support widespread adoption of electric vehicles by embedding energy infrastructure into everyday spaces. He added that the battery swapping model could play an important role in reducing downtime for last-mile delivery services and other urban mobility operations.
Nilesh Singh, senior vice president of ESG and business excellence at Nexus Select Malls, noted that the initiative reinforces the company’s efforts to transform its malls into future-ready urban ecosystems. By integrating sustainability-focused services such as battery swapping, Nexus Select aims to make green choices more accessible and practical for visitors.
Looking ahead, the partners plan to expand the rollout to other major cities including Delhi-NCR, Chandigarh, Hyderabad and Pune. Indofast Energy also said the move aligns with its broader ambition to establish tens of thousands of battery swapping stations in more than 40 Indian cities over the next three years as part of a growing Battery-as-a-Service network.
