Indofast Energy has announced a partnership with GLIDA to expand battery-swapping infrastructure across India. Under the collaboration, Indofast Energy will co-locate its battery-swapping stations at GLIDA’s existing electric vehicle charging sites. The companies aim to establish battery-swapping facilities at 50 sites with more than 100 swapping stations over the next 12 months, supporting the development of India’s growing EV infrastructure.
The partnership will begin with the deployment of 10 Quick Interchange Stations (QIS) across GLIDA locations in Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. These stations will combine battery-swapping facilities with existing EV charging infrastructure, giving users access to different energy solutions from the same locations. The initiative is designed to create integrated EV energy destinations across key markets.
By bringing charging and battery swapping together, the companies intend to serve different categories of electric vehicles through a common infrastructure network. GLIDA will contribute its established charging locations and power-ready sites, while Indofast Energy will bring its battery-swapping network and Battery-as-a-Service model. This combined approach is expected to support the expansion of EV energy infrastructure at accessible and high-visibility locations.
The partnership is also expected to benefit delivery riders and fleet operators, for whom reducing vehicle downtime is particularly important. Battery swapping allows compatible EV users to replace a discharged battery with a charged one instead of waiting for conventional charging. According to the companies, placing swapping stations at established charging locations can provide quicker turnaround and help maximise daily on-road uptime for high-use electric vehicles.
Subhash Bhat, Interim CEO of Indofast Energy, said the partnership will help the company expand its Battery-as-a-Service network by using well-connected and power-ready locations that can be activated for battery-swapping operations. GLIDA Managing Director and CEO Deepak Paliwal said the company’s charging hubs can support additional mobility solutions, allowing high-power charging and rapid battery swapping to operate from the same location for different vehicle categories.
The Indofast Energy-GLIDA partnership marks another step towards developing integrated EV energy infrastructure in India. With the planned expansion to 50 sites and more than 100 battery-swapping stations within 12 months, the collaboration aims to increase access to battery swapping while complementing conventional EV charging. The initiative could particularly support the needs of commercial and high-utilisation EV users as India’s electric mobility ecosystem continues to expand.
