Kerala is set to strengthen its renewable energy infrastructure through the development of six Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects, aimed at improving grid stability and enabling greater integration of clean energy sources by 2026. The initiative is part of the state’s broader strategy to support its growing renewable energy capacity while ensuring a reliable power supply.
The planned battery storage facilities will help address the challenges associated with renewable energy generation, particularly the intermittent nature of solar and wind power. By storing excess electricity generated during periods of high renewable output, the systems will enable energy to be supplied during peak demand hours, improving overall grid efficiency.
The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) is leading the implementation of these projects, which are expected to play a significant role in balancing electricity demand and supply across the state. The storage systems will also help reduce dependence on expensive power purchases during peak consumption periods.
