Kia India has launched the new Kia Sorento in the Indian market with an introductory starting price of ₹27.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The premium three-row SUV is offered with both diesel and strong-hybrid powertrain options and is available in six- and seven-seat configurations. Manufactured locally at Kia’s Anantapur facility in Andhra Pradesh, the Sorento becomes the company’s latest flagship internal-combustion SUV for the Indian market.
The launch is an important step for Kia India as the Sorento introduces the company’s strong-hybrid technology to the Indian passenger vehicle market. The SUV gets a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol strong-hybrid powertrain alongside a 2.2-litre diesel engine. Both powertrains are available with automatic transmissions, while higher-spec variants are offered with all-wheel drive. The Sorento is positioned in the premium three-row SUV segment, competing with established models in the category.
Under the hood, the 1.6-litre turbo-petrol strong-hybrid system combines a 180 hp petrol engine producing 265 Nm with a 65 hp electric motor delivering 264 Nm. The hybrid powertrain is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The 2.2-litre diesel engine develops 193 hp and 442 Nm and is paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Depending on the variant, customers can choose between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations.
In terms of design and dimensions, the India-spec Kia Sorento measures 4,815 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width and 1,785 mm in height, with a 2,820 mm wheelbase according to Kia India’s specifications. The SUV features Crystal Cube LED headlamps, LED rear combination lamps, 18-inch and 19-inch alloy wheel options and a premium three-row cabin. Inside, the Sorento gets a panoramic curved display combining a 12.3-inch touchscreen with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
Technology is another major highlight of the new SUV. Selected higher-spec variants get Kia AI Assistant with real-time generative AI support, along with connected-car functions, digital key technology, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a panoramic sunroof and other premium features. Kia has also equipped the Sorento with advanced safety and driver-assistance technology, including a 360-degree camera, remote smart parking assistance and ADAS features. The official Kia specifications list Level 2 and Level 2+ ADAS configurations depending on the variant.
With its combination of hybrid technology, AWD capability, three-row practicality, premium features and advanced driver-assistance systems, the Kia Sorento strengthens the company’s presence in India’s premium SUV market. The introduction of a strong-hybrid powertrain also gives Kia an important new offering as Indian consumers increasingly consider multiple powertrain technologies. With the Sorento, Kia is targeting buyers looking for a larger SUV that combines performance, technology, comfort and everyday practicality.
