Maruti Suzuki has achieved a major milestone as its newly showcased electric SUV, the e-Vitara, has officially become India’s first EV to secure a full 5-star rating under the Bharat NCAP safety program. The certification was announced during a formal event in New Delhi, marking a significant moment for the country’s growing EV segment.

In the crash-test assessment, the e-Vitara delivered strong results with 31.49 out of 32 points in Adult Occupant Protection and 43 out of 49 points in Child Occupant Protection. These combined scores placed the SUV at the top of the EV safety chart in India, highlighting its capability to meet global-level protection standards.

The e-Vitara is built on Maruti Suzuki’s dedicated HEARTECT-e platform, designed specifically for electric vehicles. The structure incorporates more than 60% high-tensile and ultra-high-tensile steel, improving rigidity and crash resistance. Enhanced battery protection architecture further boosts overall impact safety.

Key safety features offered as standard across all variants include seven airbags, electronic stability program, ABS with EBD, brake assist, and hill-hold control. The model also integrates Level-2 ADAS functions and ISOFIX mounts, adding additional layers of active and passive safety support.

With this 5-star certification, the e-Vitara sets a new benchmark for electric SUVs in India. The achievement is expected to boost consumer confidence, especially among buyers who prioritize safety along with performance and sustainability in the EV market.

Maruti Suzuki has also confirmed its broader EV roadmap, including nationwide infrastructure expansion. The company aims to scale public charging coverage, aligning with its long-term strategy to promote safer, more reliable, and more accessible electric mobility across India.
