Matel Motion & Energy Solutions has entered a strategic collaboration with Honda Power Pack Energy India (HEID) to promote the adoption of EV battery swapping technology in India. This partnership combines Honda’s expertise in swappable battery systems with Matel’s advanced electric powertrain solutions, aiming to address two major challenges for electric vehicle (EV) users: long charging times and limited range.

The initiative will enable faster and more convenient charging, especially for businesses with high daily vehicle usage. As part of the agreement, Matel will adapt its powertrain systems to work seamlessly with Honda’s battery-swapping infrastructure, allowing manufacturers currently using fixed-battery solutions to easily transition to swappable versions without altering their core technology.

Honda’s extensive experience in the automotive industry, particularly in developing lithium-ion batteries, will be a significant asset in enhancing the battery swapping ecosystem. The expansion of the swapping network, which is initially set up in Bangalore, will soon extend to key cities like Delhi and Mumbai, helping to increase EV adoption in urban areas.

According to Tomohide Haraguchi, Vice President of Honda Power Pack Energy India, this solution will be especially beneficial for business-to-business (B2B) customers who require high-performance EVs for daily use. By offering swappable batteries, businesses can avoid the high costs associated with battery replacement and quick charging solutions, ensuring long-term vehicle reliability.

Matel Motion, a leader in electric powertrain technology, will continue to focus on energy-efficient solutions for a wide range of vehicles, including buses and two-wheelers. The company is committed to supporting India’s local manufacturing and energy goals through its innovation and research in the EV sector.

This partnership marks a significant step in enhancing India’s electric mobility infrastructure, providing businesses and consumers with an accessible, efficient, and cost-effective alternative to traditional charging methods. The collaboration between Matel Motion and Honda will help accelerate the transition towards a sustainable EV future.
