Mecpower Solutions has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Gujarat to establish a proposed 5 GWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) assembly facility at Karjan. The project is expected to attract an investment of approximately ₹160 crore, reinforcing the company’s long-term commitment to India’s rapidly expanding clean energy and energy storage sector.

The upcoming manufacturing facility is designed to serve the growing demand for battery energy storage solutions across utility-scale renewable energy projects as well as commercial and industrial applications. As India continues to increase renewable energy capacity, energy storage systems are becoming essential for balancing intermittent power generation, improving grid reliability, and ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply.

According to Mecpower Solutions, the project represents an important milestone in its strategy to expand beyond renewable energy infrastructure and strengthen its presence in advanced energy storage manufacturing. The company believes domestic production of BESS solutions will play a significant role in supporting India’s clean energy transition while reducing dependence on imported technologies.

Managing Director Setul Shah stated that the proposed investment reflects Mecpower’s confidence in India’s clean energy growth and its commitment to building stronger domestic manufacturing capabilities. He noted that battery energy storage will become increasingly important in supporting renewable energy integration, improving grid resilience, and enhancing the country’s long-term energy security objectives.

The Gujarat government has been actively attracting investments in renewable energy and battery manufacturing, positioning the state as one of India’s leading clean energy hubs. The addition of a new BESS assembly facility is expected to strengthen the regional manufacturing ecosystem while supporting the country’s broader ambitions under its energy transition and self-reliance initiatives.

With utility-scale energy storage emerging as a key component of India’s future power infrastructure, Mecpower’s proposed 5 GWh facility is expected to contribute to expanding domestic production capacity and meeting the growing demand for advanced battery storage systems. Once operational, the project is likely to support renewable energy deployment while helping improve the stability and flexibility of the national electricity grid.
