Nightpeak Energy has announced the successful financial close and commencement of commercial operations at its 150 MW Bocanova 2 battery energy storage project in Southeast Texas. The project began commercial operations on September 17, 2026, bringing the combined power capacity of the Bocanova site to 300 MW. The facility adds battery storage capacity to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) grid as electricity demand grows across the region.

Bocanova 2 is the second phase of Nightpeak Energy’s battery storage development in Brazoria County, near the Houston metropolitan area. The first phase, Bocanova 1, has a capacity of 150 MW and began commercial operations in August 2025. With both phases operational, the Bocanova site now has a total power capacity of 300 MW.

The Bocanova 2 project has a two-hour storage duration and uses Tesla’s Megapack 2 XL battery energy storage systems. The facility is designed to provide flexible energy storage capacity to the ERCOT grid, where growing electricity demand from data centres and other large electricity consumers is increasing the need for additional power infrastructure.

The project operates under a long-term offtake agreement with an investment-grade counterparty, which has not been identified in the company’s announcement. Financing includes a tax equity bridge loan and a construction-to-term loan provided by MUFG Bank. U.S. Bank provided traditional tax equity financing for the project.

Paris Hays, Co-founder and CEO/CDO of Nightpeak Energy, highlighted the rapid growth in electricity demand and the need for infrastructure that can respond to changing grid requirements. He noted that Texas is experiencing significant growth in large electricity loads and requires additional infrastructure and flexible resources. Hays also acknowledged the support of the City of Alvin, Brazoria County and the local community in bringing the Bocanova project into operation.

Founded in 2022, Nightpeak Energy has developed and acquired a portfolio of more than 1 GW of operating and de-risked capacity across gas-fired generation, battery storage and powered land development. The company is also advancing additional projects involving flexible power generation and large electricity loads to address rising electricity demand in the United States.
