Nissan Motor together with Nissan Motorsports & Customizing (NMC) has revealed the Aura NISMO RS Concept at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2026, presenting an electrified vision for the next generation of high-performance hot hatchbacks. The concept car underscores Nissan’s commitment to blending motorsports engineering with advanced hybrid technology and teases potential production plans.
Developed as a technical validation model, the Aura NISMO RS builds upon the existing Aura NISMO platform, integrating Nissan’s high-output e-POWER hybrid system borrowed from the X-Trail NISMO. This setup combines experienced motorsports know-how with production car technologies, hinting at Nissan’s evolving performance strategy.
Visually, the concept pushes the “Agile Electric City Racer” theme into a more aggressive and track-focused design. Its body is significantly widened with flared fenders, sits lower to the ground, and boasts a broader stance — all engineered to improve cornering stability and visual impact. Aerodynamic enhancements such as a bold front spoiler, side skirts, rear diffuser and high-mounted rear wing contribute to increased downforce with reduced drag.
Inside and out, the car echoes motorsports-inspired styling, finished in an exclusive Dark Matte NISMO Stealth Gray paint with signature red accents. The concept’s design elements signal Nissan’s intent to blur the lines between performance aesthetics and functional engineering, appealing to enthusiasts who value both looks and capability.
Under the skin, the hybrid system from the X-Trail NISMO combines multiple electric motors with a small combustion engine that acts as a generator — delivering strong total output and all-wheel drive via Nissan’s e-4ORCE control technology. Upgraded suspension tuning, performance tyres and enhanced braking further support the enhanced performance profile of the RS Concept.
While still a concept and not confirmed for full production, Nissan and NMC are exploring possibilities for future commercialization and even motorsport adaptations. The Aura NISMO RS Concept offers a glimpse of what the future could hold for performance-oriented hybrid vehicles — where electrification and driving excitement coexist.
