Ola Electric Secures BIS Certification for Indigenous 46100 LFP Cell

Ola Electric has achieved a major milestone in India’s electric vehicle industry by becoming the first domestic company to secure Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification for its indigenously developed 46100 Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery cell. The certification marks a significant step in the company’s efforts to strengthen local battery manufacturing and reduce dependence on imported cell technologies.

The approval has been awarded to Ola Cell Technologies, the battery manufacturing arm of Ola Electric. With this certification, the company has demonstrated that its locally developed battery cell meets the safety, quality, and performance requirements prescribed under Indian standards, paving the way for wider commercial deployment.

According to the company, the 46100 LFP cell has successfully undergone extensive testing across multiple parameters, including safety, reliability, environmental resilience, and transportation compliance. These evaluations were conducted at accredited testing facilities to ensure adherence to industry benchmarks.

Ola Electric said the newly certified battery cell has been engineered to support both electric mobility applications and energy storage solutions. The company believes the technology will play an important role in improving battery affordability, durability, and long-term performance while supporting India’s growing clean energy ecosystem.

The development is part of Ola Electric’s broader strategy to build a vertically integrated battery manufacturing ecosystem in the country. The company has been investing heavily in cell research, development, and large-scale production infrastructure to enhance domestic capabilities in advanced battery technologies.

With BIS certification now in place, Ola Electric is expected to accelerate the deployment of its indigenous battery cells across future products. The achievement further strengthens India’s push for self-reliance in EV technology and supports the government’s vision of creating a robust local electric mobility supply chain.
