Onward Solar Power has signed a Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) with GRIDCO for the development of a 45 MW/180 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Odisha. The agreement marks an important milestone in strengthening the state’s power infrastructure and supporting the growing integration of renewable energy sources.

The project has been awarded under the Solar Energy Corporation of India’s (SECI) competitive bidding programme for standalone battery energy storage systems. Through this initiative, Onward Solar secured a total capacity of 45 MW/180 MWh, highlighting its growing presence in India’s energy storage sector.

Battery energy storage systems are increasingly being deployed across the country to enhance grid flexibility and ensure a reliable electricity supply. These systems help balance fluctuations in power generation and demand, particularly as renewable energy adoption continues to rise.

Under the BESPA framework, the storage project will provide critical support to Odisha’s electricity network by improving grid stability and enabling more efficient utilization of renewable energy resources. The project is expected to play a key role in strengthening the state’s clean energy ecosystem.

The initiative also aligns with India’s broader efforts to expand energy storage infrastructure and accelerate the transition toward sustainable power generation. Large-scale battery storage projects are becoming essential for maintaining reliability while increasing the share of solar and wind energy in the grid.

With the signing of the agreement, Onward Solar and GRIDCO have taken a significant step toward advancing Odisha’s energy transition goals. The project is expected to contribute to a more resilient power system while supporting the state’s long-term renewable energy and decarbonization objectives.
