SAIC Motor has created history by becoming the first Chinese automaker to surpass 100 million cumulative vehicle sales and production globally. The milestone highlights the company’s long-term growth journey and reflects the increasing global influence of China’s automotive industry.
The company celebrated the achievement in Shanghai by delivering its 100 millionth vehicle, the IM LS9 Hyper, a flagship extended-range electric SUV from its premium EV brand IM Motors. The milestone vehicle was handed over during a special ceremony attended by company executives and industry stakeholders.
Founded in 1955, SAIC Motor has grown into one of China’s largest automotive groups, with operations spanning passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, mobility services, automotive finance, and advanced vehicle technologies. Over the decades, the company has expanded its presence across domestic and international markets.
The achievement comes as SAIC continues to strengthen its position in the electric vehicle segment and accelerate its global expansion strategy. The automaker has maintained strong sales momentum in 2026, reporting robust performance across its self-owned brands and overseas operations.
SAIC has also been expanding its international footprint, particularly in Europe, where it is planning its first manufacturing facility in Spain. The move is expected to support the company’s long-term growth ambitions and strengthen its presence in one of the world’s most competitive automotive markets.
Industry observers view the 100 million-vehicle milestone as a landmark achievement for China’s automotive sector. As the global industry shifts toward electrification and intelligent mobility, SAIC’s success underscores the growing competitiveness of Chinese automakers and their expanding role in shaping the future of transportation.
