Schaeffler, the motion technology company, is prevailing to finance in the development of EV charging framework at its locations. More than 5,000 susidiary charging points for electric vehicles are to be established global by 2030. These involve 3,000 charging points at European locations alone.
This action is a component of Schaeffler’s environmental initiative. The technology and the operator model are being tested in two German locations: Herzogenaurach and Schweinfurt. After the test phase is successfully concluded, the project will be progressively implemented throughout the Schaeffler Group’s other areas.
“Schaeffler is dedicated to e-mobility and stands for sustainability,” says Andreas Schick, the company’s chief operating officer. He further added, “The higher-level goal of continuously lowering our CO2 emissions is what we are aiming for. This involves the carbon footprint for individual mobility. We hope that this effort will help Schaeffler become a more appealing employer for environmentally conscious workers and inspire them even more to do so.”
Pilot projects in Germany
Forty charging stations have been built as part of the renovation of a parking lot at the Schaeffler factory in Herzogenaurach. Initially, employees can use these stations for free. All Schaeffler facilities use the same standard model of charging stations, which is these ones. In the future, they will be run and managed by an outside partner and have a charging capacity of up to 22 kW per station.
The Herzogenaurach location’s growth plan calls for the addition of 245 more charging stations by 2025 for staff members, company vehicles, and guests. The first step will be to extend Schweinfurt’s electrical infrastructure to enable the addition of 122 more charging stations. 2025 is when operations are expected to begin.
