Bengaluru-based EV manufacturer Simple Energy has announced the launch of India’s first rare earth-free motors for electric vehicles. This innovation aims to reduce reliance on imported rare earth magnets, which are expensive and face frequent global supply challenges.
The company has designed these motors with an advanced architecture that replaces heavy rare earth elements with alternative compounds. Despite this shift, the motors are said to deliver the same performance, efficiency, and torque as conventional models, while lowering costs and supply risks.
Production of these new motors is taking place at Simple Energy’s 200,000 sq. ft. Hosur facility in Tamil Nadu. The plant is equipped with modern infrastructure and has the capacity to scale up manufacturing to meet India’s rapidly growing EV demand.
Simple Energy’s founder and CEO, Suhas Rajkumar, highlighted that the move reflects the company’s long-term vision of creating a self-reliant EV ecosystem in India. He added that reducing rare earth usage is not only an economic step but also a sustainable one that strengthens India’s position in the EV sector.
Alongside this technological advancement, the company is expanding its retail network. Currently operating 42 stores across India, Simple Energy plans to increase the count to 100 outlets by December 2025, marking a major step in its growth and market revival strategy.
