Italian electric motorcycle maker Soriano Motori officially inaugurated its first U.S. manufacturing facility in Southbury, Connecticut, highlighting its entry into American production following the newly ratified EU‑USA Trade Treaty. At the event, the company presented prototype versions of its Giaguaro V1 series, developed through the global joint venture “Soriano9” alongside U.S. firm Gyre9.
Soriano’s decision to establish operations in Connecticut comes in partnership with local EV firm Gyre9, leveraging an expanded 40,000 sq ft facility capable of high-volume EV output. The collaboration aims to build electric motorcycles and EV charging infrastructure under a shared vision of sustainable mobility.
At the launch held on July 30, attendees experienced a full product showcase and immersive technology stations. Marco Antonio Soriano unveiled the “SORIANO9 EV Bike,” while engineers and executives from both firms participated in a panel discussion about innovation-driven collaboration.
The Giaguaro V1 prototype line includes the flagship V1‑Gara and models V1‑S and V1‑R — all designed in Italy with dual liquid‑cooled motors and three-speed manual transmissions that recall traditional motorcycle performance while delivering electric powertrains. The V1‑Gara boasts 75 kW (100 hp) output and a 0–60 mph sprint in 3.5 seconds, with estimated ranges of 120–160 km using 15–20 kWh dual battery packs.
Despite an earlier miscommunication claiming a $7.5 million state investment, state nonprofit AdvanceCT clarified that no such funding was involved. Soriano and Gyre9 affirmed they would proceed with the joint venture independently of state support, reaffirming their commitment to U.S. manufacturing plans.
Soriano Motori’s expansion marks a significant step in its global strategy, combining European craftsmanship with U.S.-based industrial scale. The Connecticut plant and the Soriano9 joint venture are designed to serve as a hub for clean-tech production, R&D, and integrated EV infrastructure development for both U.S. and global markets.
