Suzuki Motor Corporation has officially unveiled its first battery electric vehicle (BEV), the e VITARA, in India, marking a key milestone in the company’s global electric mobility strategy. The launch on Wednesday sees the new electric SUV go on sale through Suzuki’s Indian arm, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, as the automaker intensifies its efforts in the country’s fast-growing EV market.
The e VITARA has been developed under the concept of an “Emotional Versatile Cruiser” and is built on Suzuki’s HEARTECT-e platform, a structure designed specifically for battery-electric vehicles. The SUV’s engineering blends advanced technology with robust design to offer what the company calls a responsive and refined driving experience for its customers.
As part of its “e for me” India-focused BEV strategy, Maruti Suzuki is simultaneously strengthening its electric vehicle ecosystem to enhance usability and address range anxiety. The automaker has already established over 2,000 exclusive charging points across more than 1,100 cities in the country to support early electric vehicle adoption.
Looking ahead, the company has announced an ambitious plan to expand its charging footprint nationwide — with the aim of enabling more than 100,000 public charging points by 2030. This effort will be carried out in partnership with Suzuki’s dealer network and external Charge Point Operators, with the goal of providing a wider and more accessible EV charging infrastructure.
To further improve owner convenience, Maruti Suzuki has launched the “e for me” mobile application, which enables users to locate charging stations and monitor the charging status of their vehicles in real time. In addition, the company has prepared a support network of 1,500 BEV-ready service workshops across India, backed by mobile service vehicles to assist with maintenance and repairs.
The e VITARA is being produced at Suzuki’s Hansalpur plant in Gujarat and represents the company’s first global strategic BEV model. In addition to its Indian debut, the SUV has already been launched in other global markets and will be exported to more than 100 countries and regions worldwide, reflecting Suzuki’s broader push toward electrification and sustainable mobility.
