Punch.ev, the electric vehicle division of Tata Motors, was launched. Punch ev is built on the company’s new “pure EV” architecture, “acti.ev.” Acti.ev, which the business has positioned as small vehicle architecture, will also underlie the future Harrier EV, Curvv EV, and Sierra EV, the Mumbai-based automaker disclosed.

The acronym acti.ev, which stands for Advanced Connected Tech-Intelligent Electric Vehicle, was suggested by the business as the foundation for upcoming TPEM products. Acti.ev, according to the business, is built on efficiency, performance, technology, space, and modularity.

“This architecture has been meticulously designed to enable class-leading efficiencies, maximising space and battery capacity and enhancing the overall driving experience,” stated Anand Kulkarni, Chief Products Officer. Acti.ev is a pure electric architecture that is future-proof and ready for the global market. It allows software-oriented features to be implemented, making our vehicles not just technologically advanced but also future-proof.

Customers can reserve their Punch.ev for a nominal fee of Rs 21,000 as of January 5. Punch.ev’s price range will be made public on the day of launch later this month.

“The Punch.ev serves as our introduction to TPEM’s next line of electric vehicles. We are optimistic that future items built on the acti.ev architecture will continue to bring joy, just like our present line of EV goods do.

A few days after Tata Motors opened two shops in Gurugram dedicated to EVs, the electric version of Punch was presented. The domestic manufacturer intends to launch new electric vehicle showrooms in Tier-I and Tier-II cities during the next twelve to eighteen months.

The acti.ev platform, on the other hand, is said by the business to have “multiple range options” ranging from 300 km to 600 km, along with a “optimized battery pack design” that improves energy density by 10%. Acti.ev claims that it can accommodate an onboard charger that can provide 100 km of additional range in 10 minutes, with a 7.2kW to 11kW capacity for AC fast charging and DC fast charging up to 150kW.

The business claims that modularity in architecture allows for the selection of the best drivetrain option among AWD, RWD, and FWD for the “appropriate product.”

In addition to announcing earlier that it will invest roughly $2 billion in battery-powered vehicles by 2027, Tata Motors also plans to develop a battery manufacturing facility in Gujarat to strengthen its local supply chain for electric vehicles. Additionally, the business plans to start producing electric cars at the Sanand facility that it purchased from US automaker Ford Motor business.

Five new electric SUVs from Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M), a domestic automaker, have also been unveiled. These vehicles are constructed on the company’s custom Inglo platform and incorporate VW MEB platform components. The e-SUVs are positioned under Mahindra’s two electric vehicle (EV) brands, XUV and the brand-new, electric-only BE. Their prices fall between Rs. 15 and 40 lakh.
