ThunderPlus, one of India’s rapidly expanding electric vehicle charging infrastructure firms, has embarked on a landmark road journey across Andhra Pradesh to showcase the readiness of EV charging systems for long-distance travel. This initiative highlights the evolving state of EV infrastructure in India, reinforcing confidence in charging solutions for extended trips beyond cities.

The live demonstration involves ThunderPlus executives, led by CEO Rajeev YSR, travelling entirely on EVs from Hyderabad to Visakhapatnam, with scheduled stops at key charging locations such as Suryapet, Gollapudi in Vijayawada, Nalajerla near Eluru, and Beach Road in Visakhapatnam. The journey relies solely on ThunderPlus’s own high-capacity charging stations, underlining the practical viability of intercity EV travel.

According to company officials, the goal of the trip is not just to prove that EVs can travel long distances, but to demonstrate that the charging network is capable, reliable, and ready for widespread use by families, daily commuters, and commercial fleets alike. ThunderPlus cites the presence of ultra-fast chargers along the route as key to reducing “range anxiety” and making long-distance electric mobility more accessible.

The infrastructure highlighted during the journey includes a 480 kW station in Hyderabad, a 560 kW ultra-fast charger near Suryapet, and a 500 kW facility at Gollapudi in Vijayawada, complemented by additional stations offering up to 240 kW capacity in other strategic towns. Vehicles participating in the drive reportedly reached up to 80 % battery charge in about 20 minutes at these high-capacity stations, showcasing the efficiency of opportunity charging.

ThunderPlus also emphasised that its charging network is designed for high uptime, scalability for fleet operations, and seamless digital access through apps that help users locate stations, handle payments, and get real-time support. This comprehensive approach aims to make EV charging convenient and dependable for all types of travellers.

Looking ahead, the company says it plans to extend similar charging corridors beyond Andhra Pradesh, targeting cities such as Bhubaneswar, Chennai, and Bengaluru. ThunderPlus is also exploring partnerships with hotels and highway destinations to build integrated charging ecosystems that support the growing Indian EV market.
