Toyota Motor Corporation has formed a strategic alliance with the Shanghai municipal government to accelerate carbon neutrality efforts in China. This partnership supports China’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.
As part of this initiative, Toyota will set up a fully-owned subsidiary in Shanghai’s Jinshan District by 2027. The new company will lead the production of a Lexus-branded BEV, with an expected output of 100,000 units annually. This project is expected to create approximately 1,000 new jobs.
Toyota’s strategy includes expanding its presence in hydrogen energy, automated driving technologies, and battery recycling, in alignment with China’s growing demand for sustainable energy solutions. The company remains committed to innovation and fostering sustainable growth in the global automotive industry.
