Uber Technologies and Joby Aviation have officially unveiled ‘Uber Air’, a dedicated air taxi booking feature within the Uber app, as Dubai prepares for the commercial launch of electric air taxi services. The announcement marks a significant milestone in the evolution of urban mobility, bringing app-based booking convenience to the rapidly emerging advanced air mobility sector.

The newly introduced Uber Air option will allow riders to book electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) flights directly through the Uber platform. For eligible routes, users will see the Uber Air choice alongside other ride options. The service is designed to offer a seamless journey, integrating ground transportation to and from designated vertiports with the aerial flight experience.

Joby Aviation’s all-electric aircraft is built to carry a pilot and multiple passengers. The eVTOL aircraft takes off and lands vertically like a helicopter before transitioning into forward flight, enabling faster travel across urban areas while producing significantly lower noise and zero operational emissions compared to conventional helicopters.

Dubai has positioned itself at the forefront of next-generation mobility solutions, actively supporting initiatives that promote innovation and sustainability in transport. The planned electric air taxi rollout aligns with the city’s broader strategy to reduce congestion, enhance connectivity, and adopt environmentally friendly transportation technologies.

The collaboration between Uber and Joby builds on their long-standing partnership in urban air mobility. Joby previously acquired Uber’s Elevate division, strengthening operational integration and digital platform capabilities for aerial ride services. The unveiling of Uber Air represents a concrete step toward making air taxis accessible through a globally recognized mobility app.

With regulatory processes advancing and infrastructure development progressing in Dubai, the commercial debut of Uber Air is expected to be among the first large-scale electric air taxi launches worldwide. The initiative could serve as a model for other cities exploring the integration of advanced aerial transport into mainstream urban mobility networks.
