Vietnam-based electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast is preparing to enter India’s electric two-wheeler segment, with plans to introduce electric scooters tailored specifically for the local market by 2026, according to industry reports. The move marks VinFast’s next phase of expansion in India after its entry into the passenger electric vehicle space.
Company executives have indicated that the upcoming scooters will be designed and developed for Indian road conditions and consumer preferences, rather than being direct imports from other global markets. India represents the world’s largest two-wheeler market, making electric scooters a strategic priority for VinFast’s long-term growth plans.
VinFast is expected to leverage its manufacturing presence in Tamil Nadu, where the company is setting up an integrated EV production facility. The plant is planned to support both four-wheeler and two-wheeler manufacturing, strengthening VinFast’s localization strategy and reducing dependence on imports.
While the company has not officially confirmed specific models for India, VinFast currently sells multiple electric scooters in Southeast Asian markets. Industry observers say the India lineup is likely to focus on urban commuting, affordability and durability, aligning with domestic demand patterns.
The planned scooter launch comes amid rapid growth in India’s electric two-wheeler segment, driven by rising fuel costs, supportive government policies and increasing consumer acceptance of electric mobility. The market is currently dominated by domestic manufacturers and new-age EV startups, making competition intense.
VinFast’s entry into the electric scooter space is expected to add further momentum to India’s EV ecosystem, as global automakers look to expand beyond electric cars into mass-market mobility solutions. The company has not yet announced pricing or launch timelines beyond 2026.
