The L120 wheel loader can be converted to electric power by Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE), which satisfies consumer demand for more environmentally friendly mid-size solutions. The 20-tonne L120H Electric Conversion, created in collaboration with partners Parker Hannifin and CE Engineering Solutions of Volvo Group, will go on sale for a limited number of customers in Europe in 2023.
Partnership to accelerate climate action
Following Volvo CE’s investment in Dutch manufacturer Limach, announced back in June, to increase the company’s selection of electric excavators, this most recent partnership aims to increase its line of electric wheel loaders.
Parallel to the company’s ongoing development of more electric solutions, like the EC230 Electric, a 23-ton battery-powered excavator built on Volvo CE’s own cutting-edge technology, is this partnership strategy, which enables quicker market implementation.
If the industry as a whole is to meet carbon reduction goals, like Volvo CE has stated in its commitment to achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040 – with significant emission reductions as early as 2030 – as part of the Science Based Targets initiative, both approaches are required.
