Travancore Titanium Products Ltd (TTPL) and Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) have joined to manufacture batteries for electric vehicles, which is a crucial step towards building the state’s e-vehicle ecosystem.
The Battery Material Research Centre was inaugurated by VSSC deputy director S A Ilangovan at an EV Conference held by the Kerala Development and Innovation Strategy Council. He regarded it as a key government effort to reduce carbon emissions. A whitepaper on lithium titanate was also released at the event.
The push into lithium titanate, according to George Ninan, managing director of Travancore Titanium Products, is part of the company’s diversification plan and will aid in the cheaper production of batteries.
According to CMD N Narayana Murthy of the Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation, the company will open a supercapacitor production facility in Kannur by June or July.
