Chinese tech giant Xiaomi is preparing to unveil its next electric vehicle, the YU7, which is being positioned as a direct competitor to Tesla’s popular EV models. The news comes as Xiaomi accelerates its transition from smartphones to smart electric mobility.
According to reports, the Xiaomi YU7 has already completed regulatory approvals with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), clearing a major hurdle ahead of its public debut. The EV is expected to build on the platform and performance benchmarks of the company’s earlier SU7 model.
Manufactured by BAIC Group, the YU7 sedan will feature a single-motor rear-wheel-drive system, capable of delivering up to 220 kW of power. The model is said to share Xiaomi’s proprietary smart tech ecosystem, including intelligent cockpit systems and AI-based driving assistance.
Design-wise, the YU7 carries forward a sleek, aerodynamic profile similar to its predecessor, the SU7, but with updated lines and performance tweaks aimed at differentiating it in the premium EV sedan space. Xiaomi is reportedly focused on refining driving dynamics and user experience to compete with Tesla and BYD.
The launch of the YU7 highlights Xiaomi’s aggressive push into the automotive sector, where it has committed billions in investment and long-term manufacturing partnerships. Analysts view the YU7 as a critical test of Xiaomi’s ability to expand beyond its consumer electronics base into large-scale vehicle production.
A launch date has not been officially announced, but industry watchers expect the YU7 to be unveiled in the coming months. With China’s EV market rapidly growing, Xiaomi’s entry with the YU7 signals intensified competition among tech and auto giants for the smart mobility future.
