AET: As a leading manufacturer of EV chargers, what core technologies and components go into your charging products, and how do you ensure compatibility with different vehicle types and OEM standards in India?
Krishna: At EVRE, our core focus is leveraging state-of-the-art technology and insights from the leading EV charging developments worldwide to establish robust and reliable charging solutions. Our functionalities also focus on making the EV charging solutions compatible with a wide range of electric vehicles and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) standards. For this, we have an in-house product development effort spearheaded by an extensively innovative R&D team, whose tireless efforts have helped EVRE to achieve a localisation content of approximately 70%, embodying the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.
The foundation of our state-of-the-art technologies and components is divided into several verticals. EVRE’s chargers are manufactured with advanced Power Electronics and embedded Firmware that ensures efficient energy delivery and intelligent charging management for a seamless charging experience.
This technology is supplemented by Smart Connectivity, meaning our chargers can support multiple connectivity options, including 4G, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet. Our chargers also offer offline charging capabilities for areas/situations without internet access. We offer absolute compliance with Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) 1.6j, allowing seamless integration with any charge management system (CMS) that enables remote monitoring and real-time billing.
Furthermore, we place grave emphasis on Dynamic Power & Phase Management, meaning that our intelligent distribution systems allocate energy automatically, depending on extensive parameters like total available load, total number of EVs connected, phase loads and user preferences. This helps to optimise the general charging efficiency and reduce the electrical infrastructure required by up to 80%.
EVRE’s chargers are also housed in Robust Enclosures that are durable & IP-rated (IP-54 to IP-67) and IK-10 enclosures that help to protect the equipment from harsh environmental conditions and physical impacts. Additionally, we place great emphasis on Electrical Safety and Protection, as our chargers have built-in safety mechanisms that offer an extra layer of security to users, vehicles and the chargers themselves from electrical faults and ensure an overall reliable and safe operation.
EVRE’s bid to originality and innovation goes well beyond the aforementioned advancements. For instance, our expertise in Dual Compatibility for EVs remains unmatched in India, where all electric 4-wheelers follow standardised charging connectors, yet the same is not followed in 2-wheelers. EVRE addresses this lack of standardisation in 2-wheelers with custom chargers that are capable of charging both 4-wheelers and 2-wheelers simultaneously. This innovative feature is especially beneficial for large residential societies and commercial usage, offering the go-to solution for a critical infrastructure challenge.
With the integration of these advanced technologies, our goal is to ensure our chargers are adaptable, efficient, and future-ready so EVRE can cater to the diverse requirements of India’s growing EV ecosystem.
AET: How does EVRE prioritise user safety, product durability, and ease of use in the manufacturing process, especially in the context of India’s varied climate and power infrastructure conditions?
Krishna: We extend tremendous focus on safety, product durability and ease of usage through a balanced combination of advanced engineering with strict adherence to standards. To ensure heightened user safety, EV and the charger itself, our chargers are factory equipped with extensive features like protection against voltage fluctuations, earthing system faults, thermal overloads, as well as electrical faults that deliver an extensively secure and reliable performance irrespective of power conditions.
If we talk about durability, EVRE uses IP-rated enclosures that range between IP-54 to IP-67, providing excellent resistance to dust, water and extreme temperatures. This innovative design helps to make our chargers well-suited for India’s diverse climate that includes dust, heavy monsoons and intense heat. Furthermore, all of our chargers are put through meticulous testing for mechanical and environmental resilience to ensure long-lasting performance.
AET: What makes EVRE’s chargers user-friendly for both residential and commercial applications? Can you elaborate on the design, software interface, and smart features that enhance the end-user experience?
Krishna: We prioritise incorporating a user-friendly experience in our chargers, which is replicated in the thoughtful design. This is particularly helpful for both residential and commercial applications, as it combines intuitive designs, advanced software interfaces, as well as smart features for enhanced convenience and efficiency.
To begin with, the EVRE chargers are designed in a sleek and compact way that fits effortlessly in residential parking spots and high-traffic commercial locations, highlighting the optimal use of available space.
To supplement the innovative Design, our chargers are equipped with a user-friendly Interface that can be accessed via integrated LEDs, displays and other companion applications, directly translating to seamless functionalities. This also helps users and facility managers to access real-time charging data, track historical reports and manage charging sessions in an effortless manner.
Furthermore, the EVRE infrastructure optimises energy use and prevents grid overload through Dynamic Load Management. This technology helps the system to intelligently balance power distribution, assuring that all connected EVs are charged efficiently without exceeding the facility’s available load capacity.
EVRE also offers integrated billing functionality to support multiple payment options. This helps to provide a smooth and flexible payment experience for our users. Additionally, our Patented Computer Vision Technology enables app-free charging by authenticating users via their respective vehicle’s license plate. This is the world’s first-ever solution of its calibre, and considerably increases the convenience and simplicity of the charging process.
AET: EVRE supplies chargers for a wide range of sectors—residential societies, commercial complexes, real estate developers, and industrial units. How do you customize your manufacturing approach to meet the unique requirements of each of these use cases?
Krishna: We are of the opinion that every charger that EVRE deploys, irrespective of the use case, needs to be reliable, robust and safe. These are qualities that remain the fundamental of all of our products. This directly translates to mitigating extensive customisation for deployment location.
However, we also understand that deployment-specific requirements like load management and offline charging capabilities may require adjustments. This is why we have designed our chargers to accommodate these requirements via configurable software features that reduce the requirement for hardware modifications. This approach leads to production scalability, allowing us to efficiently serve an extensive range of sectors without compromising on quality or performance.
AET: Being a manufacturer offering end-to-end EV charging solutions, how is EVRE investing in innovation, R&D, and production capabilities to stay ahead in a competitive and rapidly growing market?
Krishna: What sets EVRE apart is how we leverage advanced technology, innovate by aligning with customer requirements and our robust production infrastructure. These factors have played a critical role in making us one of the leaders of India’s transformative EV charging space.
For instance, we have incorporated Artificial Intelligence and IoT in our chargers, enabling features like predictive maintenance, dynamic load management and intuitive user interfaces. Our solutions are also designed to integrate renewable energy sources like solar power and battery storage, aspects that highlight our Energy Optimisation capabilities for efficient and sustainable charging.
Also, the goal of our robust R&D efforts is aimed at customers. Our R&D team prioritises understanding the diverse requirements of users, regional challenges and glaring gaps in existing charging infrastructure to deliver tailored solutions. We also recently unveiled our state-of-the-art manufacturing unit in Hyderabad, which will be critical for EVRE to ensure efficient and scalable manufacturing to meet the growing demand for EV chargers.
Furthermore, our meticulous testing process is automated and is capable of ensuring consistent product quality, shorter production cycles and cost-effective manufacturing. This aspect is further supplemented by EVRE to continue to invest in firmware updates and hardware upgrades to create future-ready products that remain ahead of market trends.
Aligning with customer requirements remains our core focus, and we integrate customer feedback religiously. The insights from users are actively used to refine our designs, enhance software interfaces and improve the general performance. These are the key areas for us at EVRE to drive innovation, meet growing demand and sustain our leadership position in the Indian EV charging market, helping to transform the country’s green mobility infrastructure in the upcoming years.
