Adani Green Energy has commissioned a 3.37 GWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Khavda in Gujarat, making it the world’s largest single-location battery energy storage project. The development marks a major milestone for India’s renewable energy sector and highlights the growing role of large-scale battery storage in supporting clean power generation and grid reliability.

The battery energy storage project has been developed as part of the company’s massive renewable energy park at Khavda. Adani Green stated that the newly operational capacity includes an additional 1.37 GWh commissioned in recent months, taking the site’s total operational BESS capacity to 3.37 GWh. The project is expected to strengthen renewable energy integration while improving power availability during peak demand hours.

According to the company, the large-scale storage system was completed within just ten months from the start of construction. The fast-paced execution reflects the increasing focus on advanced energy storage infrastructure in India’s rapidly expanding clean energy market. The project will help store renewable electricity generated from solar and wind sources and deliver stable power supply when generation fluctuates.

The Khavda BESS facility is capable of supplying electricity to nearly one million homes for an entire day. It can also support peak electricity demand for several urban regions and states across India. Industry experts believe battery storage systems like this will become essential as the country increases renewable energy capacity and moves toward round-the-clock green power supply.

Sagar Adani, Executive Director of Adani Green Energy, said battery storage technology will play a critical role in the future of India’s clean energy transition. He noted that energy storage solutions are necessary to ensure reliable, flexible, and dispatchable renewable power as solar and wind installations continue to grow across the country.

Adani Green Energy is currently developing a 30 GW renewable energy park at Khavda and has already operationalized a significant portion of the project. The company also plans to expand its battery storage portfolio further in the coming years as part of its long-term strategy to strengthen renewable energy infrastructure and accelerate India’s transition toward sustainable energy solutions.
