Sungrow and SUNOTEC have announced the successful commissioning of a 150 MW/600 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Nova Zagora, Bulgaria. The project marks a significant milestone for the country’s renewable energy sector and supports efforts to strengthen grid stability as renewable power generation continues to expand.

The large-scale energy storage facility is designed to help balance electricity supply and demand while improving the flexibility of Bulgaria’s power network. By storing excess renewable energy and releasing it when needed, the system will contribute to a more reliable and efficient electricity grid.

The project was developed through the collaboration between Sungrow, a global provider of renewable energy technologies, and SUNOTEC, a leading European renewable energy company. The partnership aims to accelerate the deployment of advanced energy storage solutions across the region.

For the installation, Sungrow supplied its PowerTitan battery energy storage technology, which is engineered to deliver high efficiency, operational reliability, and enhanced safety. The system is expected to support the integration of greater volumes of renewable energy into the grid.

According to the companies, battery energy storage is becoming increasingly important as countries work to expand renewable energy capacity while maintaining grid reliability. Projects such as the Nova Zagora facility help address challenges related to energy intermittency and peak power demand.

The commissioning of the 600 MWh BESS project highlights the growing role of energy storage in Europe’s clean energy transition. Sungrow and SUNOTEC said the project demonstrates their commitment to supporting sustainable energy development and strengthening the resilience of modern power systems.
