NatPower and Tesla have announced a major partnership to develop 25 GWh of battery energy storage projects across Italy and the United Kingdom. The agreement marks the first phase of a large-scale initiative aimed at strengthening Europe’s renewable energy infrastructure and improving grid stability as clean energy adoption continues to grow. The project is expected to be valued at up to $5 billion and represents one of the most significant battery storage collaborations in the region.

Under the multi-year agreement, NatPower will deploy Tesla’s Megapack battery storage systems for the upcoming projects. In addition to the battery technology, Tesla will also provide its energy trading platform, which helps optimize electricity buying and selling based on market conditions. This combination is expected to improve project efficiency and maximize returns from stored renewable energy.

The first phase of the collaboration will include the development of five battery storage projects across Italy and the UK. These projects are designed to support the increasing integration of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power by storing excess electricity and supplying it when demand rises or renewable generation declines.

NatPower and Tesla have also revealed ambitious long-term plans beyond the initial rollout. The broader program aims to exceed 100 GWh of energy storage capacity in the future, making it one of Europe’s largest battery storage initiatives. Construction costs for the expanded program are estimated to range between $4 billion and $5 billion.

According to the companies, the full project portfolio has the potential to generate more than $15 billion in revenue over the next two decades. The partnership is expected to create a scalable framework that can accelerate the deployment of battery storage infrastructure while attracting investment into Europe’s clean energy sector.

As countries across Europe continue to increase renewable power generation, large-scale battery energy storage systems are becoming essential for maintaining grid reliability. Through this strategic collaboration, NatPower and Tesla aim to support the energy transition by delivering advanced storage solutions that can balance electricity supply and demand while enabling greater use of renewable energy resources.
