Audi has successfully put its first high-performance plug-in hybrid, the new RS 5 PHEV, through a demanding real-world test programme in Morocco, proving that electrified power can deliver both precision and athletic driving dynamics. The trials, held across racetrack sections and mountain roads, highlight how the electrified RS 5 combines performance and everyday usability.

During specially designed trials at the Circuit de Marrakech, the RS 5 was put through its paces on tight curves, slalom sections and drift zones to stress the car’s handling capabilities. Audi engineers say the newly developed quattro drivetrain with Dynamic Torque Control uses electromechanical torque vectoring at the rear axle to improve stability and cornering precision.

At the heart of the RS 5’s performance is a plug-in hybrid powertrain that pairs a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine with a 130 kW electric motor. The combined system produces up to 470 kW (639 PS) of output and 825 Nm of torque, offering instant electric boost and dynamic performance across a range of driving conditions.

After its racetrack work, the RS 5 travelled onto the winding roads of the Atlas Mountains, where its advanced RS sport suspension equipped with twin-valve shock absorbers showcased how quickly it adapts to changing road surfaces. In all-electric mode, it also demonstrated quiet, emissions-free cruising through local towns.

Visually, the electrified RS 5 asserts its performance identity with wide fenders, a bold three-dimensional Singleframe grille and darkened Matrix LED headlights. These design cues underline the car’s athletic intentions against the dramatic Moroccan terrain.

Audi officials say the Morocco benchmarking underscores the brand’s core philosophy of testing advanced technologies in real-world environments, proving that high power and hybrid efficiency can coexist without compromise. The RS 5 PHEV signifies a new electrified chapter for Audi Sport.
