Battery Smart, one of India’s leading electric vehicle (EV) battery-swapping networks, has achieved a major milestone by completing 100 million battery swaps across its nationwide infrastructure, the company announced on Wednesday. The Gurugram-based startup said this achievement, reached nearly five years after it was founded, marks a significant step in accelerating clean mobility adoption in the country’s two- and three-wheeler segment.

The company emphasised that its battery swapping service has enabled approximately 3.5 billion kilometres of emission-free travel, helping drivers stay on the road with minimal downtime. Battery Smart estimates that it now operates around 70 per cent of all battery-swapping infrastructure in India, underlining its position as a leader in the EV mobility space.

Alongside this milestone, Battery Smart announced the launch of a ₹10 crore Driver Welfare Fund for 2026, aimed at strengthening support for its network of drivers. The fund is designed to offer insurance coverage, financial protection, rewards and skill-development opportunities for EV operators, with an estimated 100,000 drivers expected to benefit by next year.

Co-founders Pulkit Khurana and Siddharth Sikka described the 100 million swaps as a landmark moment not only for their company but also for EV adoption across India. They said each swap symbolised a driver’s choice for “clean mobility over combustion,” reflecting broader shifts toward sustainable transport solutions across urban and peri-urban regions.

Battery Smart also highlighted the economic impact of its services for drivers, noting that users on its platform have cumulatively earned more than ₹2,800 crore in income while reducing waiting times and increasing uptime through quick battery changes. The network includes a significant number of women participants, with more than 5,000 women drivers and 250 women partners, reflecting efforts to broaden inclusion in the EV ecosystem.

To support future growth and rising demand from commercial operators, Battery Smart said it plans to expand into 100 additional cities by 2026, deploy thousands of new swap stations and continue scaling daily swap capacity. The company’s technology relies on IoT-enabled batteries and real-time monitoring systems to reduce downtime and improve reliability for its users.
