BMW has demonstrated the efficiency of its upcoming Neue Klasse electric vehicle platform after a prototype BMW iX3 successfully completed a real-world journey of more than 800 kilometers on a single charge. The test was conducted in China, where the electric SUV covered a challenging route around Qinghai Lake, showcasing the brand’s next-generation EV technology.

The prototype used for the endurance drive was the BMW iX3 50L xDrive, equipped with aerodynamic 21-inch wheels and advanced energy management systems. The vehicle started and finished the route without recharging, completing the journey with approximately 2% battery capacity remaining. BMW reported an average energy consumption of just 12.6 kWh per 100 kilometers during the test.

According to BMW, the drive was carried out entirely on public roads under real-world traffic conditions. The route included significant elevation changes, with the vehicle climbing from around 2,200 meters to nearly 4,000 meters above sea level before returning to its starting point. These conditions were designed to evaluate the SUV’s efficiency, thermal management, and powertrain performance in demanding environments.

The achievement highlights the capabilities of BMW’s Neue Klasse architecture, which combines improved aerodynamics, intelligent energy management, and advanced battery technology. The platform is expected to play a key role in BMW’s future electric mobility strategy by delivering longer driving ranges and greater efficiency without compromising performance.

BMW has also confirmed that the new iX3 will feature an 800-volt electrical architecture, enabling ultra-fast charging. The production version is expected to support charging speeds of up to 400 kW, allowing drivers to add hundreds of kilometers of range in a matter of minutes. The vehicle is also expected to offer a WLTP driving range of up to 805 kilometers.

With the successful completion of this 800-kilometer endurance challenge, BMW has provided a strong preview of what customers can expect from its next-generation electric vehicles. The iX3 will be the first production model based on the Neue Klasse platform and is expected to set new benchmarks for efficiency, range, and charging performance in the premium electric SUV segment.
