BYD Launches DM-i Hybrid Technology in India With 1200km Range

BYD has introduced its advanced DM-i hybrid technology in India, expanding its electrified mobility offerings in one of the world’s fastest-growing automotive markets. The company says the technology is designed to combine the efficiency of electric driving with the convenience of extended range, addressing concerns related to long-distance travel.

The DM-i system integrates an electric motor, battery pack, and fuel-powered engine to deliver a balanced driving experience. Unlike conventional hybrid vehicles, the technology is engineered to prioritize electric propulsion for most daily driving conditions while utilizing the engine primarily to support battery charging and enhance overall range.

According to the company, vehicles equipped with the DM-i platform can achieve a driving range of more than 1,200 kilometers on a full charge and fuel tank. This capability is expected to appeal to consumers seeking lower running costs and reduced dependence on charging infrastructure during longer journeys.

BYD stated that the hybrid technology has been developed to improve energy efficiency while maintaining strong performance across urban and highway driving environments. The intelligent power management system automatically adjusts energy usage based on driving conditions, helping maximize efficiency and optimize vehicle operation.

The introduction of DM-i technology reflects BYD’s broader strategy to accelerate the adoption of cleaner transportation solutions in India. As demand for electrified vehicles continues to grow, the company aims to offer consumers a wider range of options that bridge the gap between traditional internal combustion vehicles and fully electric models.

Industry experts believe advanced hybrid technologies could play an important role in India’s transition toward sustainable mobility. With its focus on long range, improved fuel economy, and lower emissions, BYD’s DM-i platform is expected to strengthen the company’s position in the country’s rapidly evolving automotive sector.
