Continental has secured original equipment (OE) approval from General Motors (GM) to fit its CrossContact RX all-weather touring tires on two of GM’s latest electric SUVs the Cadillac OPTIQ and the Chevrolet Equinox EV.

The CrossContact RX tires will be offered in 20- and 21-inch sizes, engineered to deliver a blend of quiet ride, comfort, excellent rolling resistance, and superior braking performance. These tires also incorporate ContiSeal technology, capable of sealing punctures up to 6 mm automatically, meaning drivers can maintain momentum even after minor damage.

Continental emphasises that special features such as the tread pattern, contour design, and uniform sipe arrangement contribute to low rolling resistance and improved traction under varied conditions including light snow and wet roads. The reduced rolling noise is particularly relevant given the high expectations for quietness in EVs.

GM’s approval covers two specific tire specifications for global markets: 275/40 R21 107H XL FR ContiSeal and 245/50 R20 105H XL FR ContiSeal. These sizes balance load capacity and comfort for larger electric SUVs.

This partnership underlines Continental’s commitment to innovation in the EV mobility space, combining performance, comfort, and durability. With the ContiSeal puncture protection, drivers gain resilience in case of minor tire damage a useful safety and convenience feature.

As GM accelerates production of its next-generation EV lineup, this OE approval strengthens Continental’s role as a trusted supplier in the electric mobility ecosystem. It also reflects the growing trend of tire manufacturers tailoring products specifically to the demands of EVs — noise, rolling resistance, and durability among them.
